Viking Plastics manufactures polypropylene lint traps purpose-built for commercial laundromats, capturing lint fibres from machine wastewater to prevent it from entering the sewer and becoming a potential cause of a blockage. Viking Plastics lint traps are Australian made, tailored solutions, proven strength. Backed by 60+ years of trade waste fabrication.

Capturing lint before it reaches the sewer helps prevent blockages, reduces maintenance costs and supports trade waste compliance with your local water authority. Commercial laundromats are high risk for lint-related sewer blockages and ‘lintbergs’, and many water authorities — including Sydney Water — require pre-treatment such as a lint trap or screen before discharge to sewer.

Viking Lint Trap Range

Model Machines Description
NP44AG 1–3 Compact lint trap with removable basket and fixed basket — easy, visible cleaning
NP46AG 3–5+ Horizontal removable stainless steel screen with fixed vertical screen, and an overflow mechanism

Job-specific customisations to ensure water authority compliance are available on request. Not sure which suits your site? The lint trap sizing guide compares both against machine count, discharge temperature and load profile.

How A Lint Trap Works

It is a simple passive system. There are no moving parts, no power, and no consumables beyond the occasional replacement screen.

  1. Collect — wastewater from the washing machines flows into the lint trap tank via the inlet connection.
  2. Filter — flow velocity reduces and lint fibres are captured by the internal fine mesh filter basket and fixed screen.
  3. Discharge — cleaned water passes under and around the basket and exits via the outlet to the sewer connection.
  4. Maintain — Inspect the lint basket regularly. Before it becomes full, lift it out using the handle, empty the captured lint into an appropriate bin, clean the basket as directed and secure it back in place.

Hot tip: Check more frequently in the first few weeks after installation to see how quickly lint accumulates. These observations can be used to set a cleaning schedule, subject to the manufacturer’s instructions and your trade-waste permit.

Running Hot? You May Also Need A Cooling Pit

Commercial laundry effluent typically leaves the machines at 38–45°C, and industrial laundries disinfecting linen can run to 71–85°C. Where discharge exceeds the authority limit — 38°C for Sydney Water — an averaging and cooling pit is generally required ahead of the connection to sewer. Viking supplies these in above and below ground configurations from 250 to 2,000 litres.
