Often, yes. Commercial laundry effluent typically leaves the machines at 38–45°C. Industrial laundries disinfecting linen can run internal washes to 71–85°C, although final rinses or mixing usually bring the discharge temperature down.
Many Australian trade waste rules limit discharge to around 38–40°C at the treatment plant inlet, or cap it at 60–65°C to protect the sewer. Sydney Water’s limit is 38°C.
Where discharge exceeds the limit, an averaging and cooling pit is generally required ahead of the connection to sewer. Hot water entering the pit passes through a removable lint basket, and the tank is sized to retain the water long enough for it to cool before discharge. Viking supplies these above and below ground, from 250 to 2,000 litres.
