How often should a lint trap be emptied?

Check weekly on busy sites and empty when the basket or screen reaches about two thirds full, to avoid overflow or reduced performance. In practice most commercial laundries empty two to three times a week, or whenever the basket is full. Frequency depends on machine count and usage.

Hot tip: Check more frequently in the first few weeks after installation to see how quickly lint accumulates. These observations can be used to set a cleaning schedule, subject to the manufacturer’s instructions and your trade-waste permit.

Emptying takes minutes. Lift the basket out by its handle, empty the lint into a bin, rinse thoroughly with a hose, and replace it. Inspect the mesh for damage or clogging while it is out, and clean any fixed screen whenever excess lint is visible.

Sediment collecting in the bottom of the tank should be cleaned out during service rather than flushed through. Keeping a simple log of date and quantity emptied helps predict service intervals and demonstrates due diligence to the authority. Spare baskets are available from Viking so there is no downtime during cleaning.
